Parents and Children.

"If you get 12A+, I'll get you a DSLR"

"If you get straight As, I'll get you a new phone"

"If you get all A+s, I will give you $ 1K"

Sounds familiar? I bet you've heard of these or anything similar, at least once in your lifetime as a student or a child.

Undeniably the society today has been made to believe that : Academic achievements are the key to high post in big companies and fat pay cheques.

However, should everything be judged by the sheet of cert and result slip alone? Should a boy or girl's capability be judged by only a one-day performance? Is that fair?

What about the hard work that they have poured in and all the sacrifices that they've made throughout the years in preparing for that one major exam? Late night studies, tuition marathon, panda eyes, sleeping at 2 and wake up at 6, the pain and agony that only we understand...

Can an 'A+' or 'B' or 'D' grade on the piece of paper grade everything?

A flu on the examination day can make a good student sway.

And, not only that, so many other factors are affecting the final results. Need not speak much.

So, at the end of the day, do YOU think it's still fair to reward your children based on the As or Cs on the result slip? Or have I changed your mindset to pat them on the shoulder for putting in all the hard work and tireless effort to score and excel, in other words : make YOU happy?

Parents should compliment their children for their hard work, not the As.

Parents should always be supportive, and not blame their children for fetching home many "C"s and "D's.

Parents should accept the limits their children can achieve, and not push them to fulfill unreasonable dreams.
